Roy possesses a 25-year track record of success in domestic and international finance. He has worked in key management positions with two fortune 50 companies and consulted with small to medium-sized businesses in various industries, including Energy, Oil and Gas, Telecommunications, Technology, Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Distribution. Roy was the co-leader in an innovative, first-time-in-the-market, auction-style $750 million Letter of Credit facility syndicated with 12 banks. He has raised over $500 million of debt and equity in the capital markets to finance energy and petrochemical projects in China, Nigeria, and Venezuela. He has consummated M&A transactions ranging from $5 million to $300 million.
Since transitioning to consulting, he has helped numerous small to medium-sized companies realize their full potential. Consulting is a collaborative experience, and success depends on the ability to work closely with the owners and management and with the accounting, sales and marketing, production, and other departments to develop business plans, growth plans, or exit strategies based on their business goals. Roy is open-minded and possesses the requisite interpersonal & mentoring skills necessary to navigate up, down quickly, and sideways within an organization. Speed of delivery is critical in keeping clients’ costs within budget. He leverages his exceptional analytical skills to examine swiftly, digest and understand business needs and recommend and execute comprehensive solutions.
He recently shepherded a $7 million family-owned ailing telecom through bankruptcy. He negotiated with lawyers, creditors, bankers, and tax authorities and guided the company to a successful exit. He has also lent his experience to several technology start-ups preparing pitch decks, financial modeling, and setting up the accounting & finance function. He successfully raised $800k seed funding for a technology platform detecting, collecting & reporting news events and incidents in real-time using advanced artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.
His finance and accounting expertise includes core proficiencies in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, financial modeling, cash flow management, Key Performance Indicators and forecasting, risk management, system integration, and contract negotiations. Roy’s software experience includes Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, Trello, and Microsoft Office.
Roy holds an MBA in Finance & Investments from Baruch College N.Y and a B.A. (honors) in Economics from the University of Sri Lanka. He is proficient in reading and writing in Spanish. He is a volunteer advisor on the Small Business Development Council (SBDC) Advisory Board.
Roy is an avid sportsman and is a former International Rugby player who enjoys tennis and squash.
